Posted on January 31st, 2013

Hello! Ready to meet another member of the Credit Karma team? Just as a reminder, last week we introduced you to Cathy, one of our analysts.

Today, meet Greg! Two fun facts about Greg: he is (or was) in an a cappella group and he has a greatly reduced capability to smell things. Interesting, right?!

The Interview

What’s your title at Credit Karma?
Director of Marketing, Analytics and Communications

Describe in 25 words or less what you do.
The communications and marketing team helps build Credit Karma by spreading the word about how great Credit Karma is and getting members to stay through excellent member support. Analytics is dedicated to optimizing all aspects of Credit Karma: product, marketing and user experience.

How long have you worked at CK?
I’ve been around since the beginning, but I started working full time for Credit Karma in May 2011.

What’s your favorite thing about working at CK?
The energy! I’ve worked in several places over the years, and in my experience it’s very rare to find a place like this where everyone can get excited about making a difference and Credit Karma a better company.

What’s your favorite snack in the CK kitchen?
I like the BCAA Boost I bring in, as well as the greek yogurt.

What is something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
My undergraduate degree took 7 years and I graduated with 204 credits (for a 122 credit degree).

What was your worst subject in elementary school?
Hand writing – I still write like a 4th grader (funny story, my dad found some old assignments from elementary school and I really DO still write like I did in 4th grade, and it wasn’t very good then).

What’s a secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have?
I am a reasonably capable swing dancer (lindy hop, anyone?)

If you could pick any superhero power, what would it be and why?
Life is too short – I’d pick immortality (not highlander style immortality though, I want there to be many).

What’s your best credit/money tip?
“Stuff” doesn’t make you happy, people do. A $3 bottle of wine and a $20 board game can provide as much entertainment as $300 spent on show tickets and a fancy dinner if you have the right company. So if you feel like something is missing in your life, try to make some friends instead of buying the latest gadget.
